WeldTraveler

Made for a 3 to 30 person shop floor

Job traveler software for welding and fab shops

WeldTraveler is job traveler software for welding and metal fabrication shops that replaces the paper route sheet with one your crew signs off on a phone. Every step has a name and a time, every hold is on record, and you see what can ship Friday without walking the floor.

Free for 14 days, no card. Plans run $29 to $99 a month.

What is a job traveler?

The sheet that rides the cart, minus the grease

A job traveler (some shops say route sheet or shop traveler) lists the job, the drawing and each operation in order, with a place to sign off each one. It is the one part of an ERP a small fab shop actually uses, and it does not need an ERP around it.

Where the paper gives out

What the paper traveler costs you in a month

  1. 01

Nobody can prove who welded it

A traveler gets greasy, torn or lost on the cart. When a customer asks who welded and inspected a part six months later, the answer is a shrug.

  2. 02

The owner walks the floor to find a job

Where does 4402 stand, and can it ship Friday? Today that is a phone call to the foreman or a lap of the shop.

  3. 03

The hold scribbled in the margin gets missed

Wrong drawing revision, porosity, missing material. Written on the paper, it is invisible to the next shift.

  4. 04

The sign-off record is rebuilt from memory

The general contractor wants heat numbers and a sign-off record at delivery, and someone spends an evening reconstructing it.

How it works

One traveler, five stations, then the truck

  1. Saw
  2. Fit-up
  3. Weld
  4. Inspect
  5. Truck
Step 1

Write the traveler

Create the job with its customer PO, drawing number and revision, quantity and due date. Start from a saved route template (handrail, stair stringer, trailer frame) or add steps one by one: cut, fit-up, weld, grind, paint, inspect.

Step 2

Hand out the steps

Assign each step to a welder or fitter, or leave it open. Welders see their steps in order on a phone, and can claim an unassigned step when nobody was named.

Step 3

Sign off as the work gets done

The welder taps sign off with the quantity finished and a note. The traveler records who did it and when. A hold or QC note, with a photo link, stops the job until a lead or inspector releases it.

Step 4

Ship it with the record

When every step is signed off and no hold is open, the job is marked ship-ready. Print the traveler with its QR code, or send the customer a read-only link.

Holds that stop the job

Wrong revision? Porosity? The job says so.

Anyone on the floor can flag a hold, a QC note or a nonconformance with a reason and a photo link. The job shows On Hold on the board and nobody can sign off further steps until a lead or inspector releases it with a disposition: use as is, rework, scrap or resolved. The next shift cannot miss it, because it is not in the margin.

Inspections and the final pass

Ship-ready means someone checked

Log fit-up, visual weld, dimensional, coating and final inspections against the job. On the Certified plan, turn on the final-pass rule and only a QC inspector, after a passing final inspection, can mark a job ship-ready. Export the QC log as a CSV when a customer or auditor asks.

Four logins

Everyone sees the same job, and changes only their part

Owner
Sees every job, invites the crew, and on the Shop plan also clears holds, inspects and marks jobs ship-ready.
Shop lead
Writes travelers, assigns steps, releases routine holds and marks jobs ship-ready.
QC inspector
Logs inspections, works the nonconformance queue, and gives the final pass before a job can ship.
Welder
Opens a phone, sees the steps assigned to them in order, signs them off, and flags problems with a photo.

Questions

Answers by who is asking

The basics

What is a job traveler?
A job traveler, also called a route sheet or shop traveler, is the document that rides with a job through the shop. It lists the job number, customer PO, drawing and revision, and each operation in order (cut, fit-up, weld, grind, paint, inspect), with room to sign off each one. WeldTraveler is that sheet on a phone, with the sign-offs, holds and inspections kept on record.
Is WeldTraveler a job traveler template I can print?
It replaces the template. Instead of copying a traveler template in Excel for every job, you save your common routes once and start a job from one. When you still want paper on the cart, print the traveler with its QR code and scan it to open the live version.
Does it replace JobBOSS, ProShop or MRPeasy?
No. WeldTraveler has no quoting, inventory or accounting. It is the traveler and nothing else, for shops that keep invoicing in QuickBooks and do not want a shop ERP, its monthly price or its weeks of setup.
Is there a free trial?
Yes, 14 days with no card. After that, pick a plan on the Billing page. Your jobs stay readable and exportable either way.

On the shop floor

How does a welder sign off a step?
On a phone or shop tablet the welder opens My Work, sees the steps assigned to them in order, and taps sign off with the quantity finished and an optional note. They can only change steps assigned to them, or claim a step nobody has taken. Their name and the time are saved on the step.
What happens when a welder finds a problem?
Anyone on the crew can raise a hold, a QC note or a nonconformance with a reason and a photo link. A hold or nonconformance puts the job On Hold and stops further sign-offs until a shop lead, inspector or owner releases it with a disposition: use as is, rework, scrap or resolved.

For your customer

Can a customer see the traveler?
Yes. The owner can turn on a read-only link for one job. It shows the job, who signed off each step and when, and the inspections. It does not show internal holds, and the owner can turn the link off at any time.
